When looking for the next fundraising ideas for churches, it will be a good idea to do something different for a change. One of the most used ideas is a bake sale, but often the parents don’t feel like attending the same fundraiser every year as you can only eat so many sweets and the idea becomes a bit tired after a few years of doing that. Why not then think of rather hosting a “salty” fundraiser like a biltong and meat products fundraising day?
It is pretty much based on the same principle of a sweet fundraiser, but instead of sugary sweet treats, you will be selling all kinds of wonderful meat products. This in itself could be done in a very interesting way as you could make the theme “around the world”. Generally, it is very important to make a theme for your fundraising day, as otherwise it would just look like a few people standing around not knowing what to do with themselves. If it is not properly organized, people will not stay long and your sales will not be as much as you hoped.
There are a wide array of different meats and meat products that are used around the world and range from different types and biltong, dry wors to other meat products like wonderful sweet preserved meats, salamis, cold meats and then to different kinds of meat spreads and pate’s. There are different ways that meats have been prepared in different countries, so why not make up a table for each different country in the world. You could for instance get an American “jerky” recipe and sell it at a table with all kinds of American products. People will stand in line to taste the difference between Jerky and our Biltong.
While you are at it, why not think of making the day even more interesting by adding the cheeses and wines of the different countries that will compliment the meats. It will take a little more planning, but it will be well worth your while.
The problem with today’s mass retail market is that, although large supermarkets advertise that they sell cheeses and wines from all over the world, the average consumer will not know where to start. It will be of great help if the seller at each stall has some knowledge on the products they are selling. The consumer will be less hesitant if they know why they are buying the product.
When setting up the tables, make sure there are chairs set around each stall to keep the visitors comfortable. Have small platters of samples ready with a little page of history on every product. A good sales tactic would work wonders as, if you know your product, you will be able to sell each person a meat product, a block of cheese and two types of wines that both compliment the above products.
