There are many different options when it comes to home improvement. One of them is to replace your drab old and dirty flooring with laminated wooden flooring.
Laminated wooden flooring can be installed in virtually any room throughout the home as it is easy to install, easy to keep clean and easy to maintain throughout the years. It will, when properly maintained, result in a item that will give a beautiful finish to any room.
One of the biggest advantages of laminated wooden flooring is that you can install it yourself which will save you a lot of money on contracting and labour fees. When you install the flooring yourself, you have the freedom to bring alive your creative side and install it as you prefer and by using any finish that you have chosen that will compliment the flooring itself.
You might think that the thought of installing a whole floor is a mammoth task, but if you follow these quick and simple tips, you will find that it is much more of an exciting project than a task.
Firstly, you will have to choose the colour, pattern and type of flooring that will both suit your personal taste but also the function that it will have. For instance, it is not such a good idea to install laminated wooden flooring in a bathroom, as the constant presence of water could cause the wood to swell and distort. Rather then make use of laminated vinyl flooring in the high water and damp areas.
Before the installation process can begin, you will have to get all the needed tools, materials and products together. Some of the tools will be a scraper and a sanding machine and the materials will be cleaning materials, a vacuum cleaner. Some of the products you will need is plastic sheeting for covering furniture, safety goggles, gloves and adhesive. You will also need laminate floor cleaner for cleaning the flooring after the job has been done.
The next step will be to prepare the floor area that you want to replace. Give it a thorough cleaning with a steel brush or paint scraper, removing any built up grime and dust. Vacuum it up so that the floor has no dust or dirt residue, as the adhesive will not stick to a dusty surface.
You will then measure the area and cut the laminated flooring planks or strips into size, depending on the pattern you prefer. If it is a straight pattern, you would measure the room from one wall to another. Also measure your planks to see if you have to cut others to fill in some gaps. Start at one corner and work your way through the room. Make sure you re-measure as you go along so that, if you start off skew, the whole floor doesn’t turn out skew. Add adhesive to small areas at a time. If you apply it to the whole floor, it will turn out to be a messy project.
After you have installed the flooring, give it a good clean with laminate floor cleaner. This will remove any extra adhesive that had spilled or come out from the sides of the flooring. Leave it to dry overnight and maintain it by giving it a good cleaning once a month.
